FAQs

Which vaccinations are required before the kennel will accept my pet?

For dogs we require booster vaccinations (canine distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, etc.) administered within the last year & bordatella within the last six months.  Puppies that have not received all of their booster shots (3 to 4) will be quarantined.

Cats must have their booster vaccinations (distemper, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, etc.) within the last year.

As a note, we do honor the distemper combo vaccination and the feline combo vaccinations for 3 years if they are at least 1 1/2 years old and have had the total series of their puppy/kitten shots or two vaccinations as adults, and the bordatella for 1 year if they have had two bordatella vaccinations in the past.

Why do I need to get the Bordatella vaccination?

Bordatella vaccine is given to protect your dog from Kennel Cough.  Kennel Cough is a fairly common ailment in dogs. It is caused by an airborne virus, which is highly contagious.  Any time your dog is in the vicinity of an infected dog, the potential exists for infection.  We strive to insure the Bordatella bronchiseptica virus does not get into our kennel.  That is why every dog boarded must have the Bordatella vaccine.

Even though a dog has been given the vaccine (Bordatella) for Kennel Cough, it is often not effective in preventing infection. The most likely explanation for this is that there are many strains and mutations of the virus out there. Therefore, it is hit or miss whether the vaccine used on your dog will be the right one for the strain with which your dog comes into contact. This is similar to the "flu shot" for people; each year a vaccine is developed based on which strain(s) are suspected to be most prevalent. Be aware that your dog can still catch Kennel Cough even if s/he has had a shot to prevent it.

How does the kennel prevent flea and tick infestation?

All animals are examined before they are admitted into the general population. Any that are found with parasites will be treated (at an additional cost to the owner) and quarantined until there are free of signs of infestation. Dogs must be on heart worm and flea and tick treatments. If the dog stays past its scheduled heart worm treatment or flea and tick prevention application, the owner must supply the treatment or make arrangements with their vet to treat their pet. Our grounds are treated regularly to prevent infestation.

There are two large fenced play areas where sociable dogs will be allowed supervised play with their friends three times a day for at least a half an hour each time. Dogs are separated by size and age for their own safety. Dogs that can’t be allowed in groups will be allowed in the play areas by themselves or walked by a staff member at least three times a day.

How are the dogs exercised?

We are proud to serve Iams and Pedigree Kibble to our canine customers. If you wish to provide your own food for your pet’s entire stay, that is just fine with us, however, there is no reduction in boarding fees for providing your own pet food.

Since cats are normally finicky eaters, we require you to bring your feline’s preferred food for the length of their stay.

We do not have food for other pets such as rabbits, gerbils, and hamsters; for these animals you will have to bring enough food for the length of your pet’s stay.

Is food provided by the kennel, can i bring my own pet food?

One of our trained staff can administer all needed medication, please just let us know your needs and we’ll do our best to accommodate them. Older dogs will be housed in quiet areas and allowed their own time in the play areas away from the younger dogs.

I have an older dog on medication, who will administer his meds and will it be kept in a quiet area?

Any dog that is in heat or comes into heat will be quarantined away from the general population. If she is part of a two or more dog “family” that are kenneled together, there will be an additional charge for the extra kennel.

What if my female does comes into heat while it is at the kennel?

Do you offer transportation?

Why, yes, we do! We can offer pick-up and drop-off of your boarded pet anywhere on the island. Pricing for this service varies based on location of pick-up/drop-off. Give us a call to discuss pricing for this option.
